Lily Lolo Black Vegan Mascara

Making the switch to nontoxic makeup doesn’t mean giving up the qualities you love about your makeup, and the Lily Lolo Black Vegan Mascara is the perfect example. If you love extreme volume and dramatic lashes, this is your mascara!

I’ve tried a few different natural mascaras now, and although I didn’t mind them, none have really WOWed me until now.

When I do my makeup, my eyes are usually the star of the show. I like to stick to a natural look on my cheeks, lips and lids and let my lashes do all the talking. That’s why I take my search for a great natural mascara very seriously!

I started my search with the more inexpensive natural mascaras, hoping I could find a diamond in the rough, and all I have to say is you definitely pay for great lashes, they don’t really come cheap (or so I’ve found so far).

With that being said, there are several inexpensive natural mascaras out there that will do the trick, but they don’t measure up to the dramatic volume that I get with the Lily Lolo Black Vegan Mascara.

The Ingredients

It’s no surprise that Lily Lolo’s ingredients score highly in my books. They are an award winning mineral cosmetic company from the UK that pride themselves in luxury all-natural makeup. Lily Lolo is well established in Europe and is now available in Canada and the US. Yay!

None of the ingredients in the mascara are on my ingredients to avoid list, and this formula is Vegan and Gluten Free, so they get an A+ in my books!

Dramatic Volume

The claim to fame for this mascara is it’s ability to give your lashes insane volume, and it doesn’t disappoint. I like my lashes thick and dramatic so this mascara really hits the spot!

To get the drama that I love, I apply 1-2 coats of the mascara. It is a thick formula so one coat sometimes doesn’t seem like enough, but more than two and you could get some serious clumping.

Another point worth mentioning is the wand is quite sturdy. I’ve come across a few mascaras that have flimsy wands and it makes the application 10x harder.

The Formula

Like I mentioned, the formula is thick. Thicker than I was used to, which caught me off guard at first. Adding too many coats could definitely get you into trouble with clumping lashes. If you’re not looking for a volumizing mascara, I would avoid this one, it might not be a good mascara for a natural-looking lash.

I apply the coats without letting it dry completely between, I find that it gets too clumpy if I do. And I always need to wipe the tip of the wand off before I apply it (like most mascaras), or I risk getting a glob on my lashes or my skin.

Another great perk is the staying power of the Lily Lolo Black Vegan Mascara! It lasts all day with no flaking. *win*

I’ve found with some natural mascaras, if the slightest bit of water hits the lashes, they start to melt away, but not this mascara. And at the end of the day, it easily comes off with my favorite natural makeup remover from Andalou Naturals (check out my full review).

The Pros

Here’s a round up of the pros:

Extreme volume. This mascara definitely delivers in the volume department, you won’t be disappointed.

No Flakes. I’ve never had this formula flake on me, it stays on my lashes all day long.

Water Resistant-ish. It’s not “waterproof”, but if you come in contact with some water it wont make a break for it.

Quality wand. The wand is sturdy which is pretty much necessary for the thick formula.

Easy to remove. I don’t have to scrub my lashes, it comes off easily with a quality natural makeup remover.

The Cons

There aren’t a lot of cons with this product, but the two that stand out to me are:

The price. Keeping in mind that natural make-up of any kind is usually more expensive than drugstore make-up. The Lily Lolo Mascara runs about $26 CAD or about $20 USD. But honestly, it’s worth it!

The super thick formula. Although this is something I love about the mascara, I could see it causing problems if you add too many coats.

Throughout the life of the mascara (like most mascaras) the formula gets thicker as it gets opened and used more.

Something that I’ve done in the past is just add a few eye drops to the mascara when it gets older/thicker and this can soften it back up and also extend the use of your mascara. A great tip for the more expensive mascaras!

Overall

If you can’t tell already, I love this mascara! I would definitely recommend it to a green beauty who craves a dramatic lash! This mascara has quickly gone to the top of the stack for me, and I’m sure you would love it too.

If you’re scraping the bottom of your mascara tube, I recommend giving Lily Lolo’s Black Vegan Mascara a go, it’s worth every penny. And if you love a dramatic lash you’ll be running back for more!

Have you tried Lily Lolo’s Mascara? How did you like it?

Xx
