Winters around here get pretty dry. Every year I have to deal with dry, itchy and cracked skin, and let me tell you, it ain’t no picnic. Over the years I’ve found products that help me feel more human and less reptile, but since making the switch to natural products, I’ve had to start over.
But in doing so, I’ve found products even better than my old favorites. Products that are good for my skin, with ingredients from nature and not some lab. They have become my new favorites and I’m excited to share them with you!
So if your dry skin has you feeling less than human, get ready to take notes.
All Natural Dry Skin Essentials
The three problem areas I focus on are my lips, face and hands (and usually what works on the hands works on the rest of the body). I’ve found three products that work exceptionally well in these areas.
Isn’t it just the worst when you have chapped lips!? Your lips look as bad as they feel, and they feel pretty darn terrible!
I usually have about a half a dozen lip balms on the go at any given time; one in my purse, one in my car, one in my office, one by my bed and usually two or three floating around the house.
Because I hate having dry lips!
Recently I’ve discovered Mettrum Originals lip balm and it’s quickly become my new favorite. They’ve combined my two favorite flavors into this tiny tube and it smells like a dream! Not to mention its buttery smooth and has super cute packaging.
Check out the ingredient list, it’s squeaky clean.
Ingredients: hemp oil, beeswax, sunflower oil, olive oil, sweet almond oil, wheatgerm oil, apricot kernel oil, natural flavour, calendula officinalis extract, vitamin E.
Although Mettrum’s products are not on the EWG database, each ingredient has a perfect score of 1.
And if you’re interested in hemp seed, check out their hemp seed flour, cold pressed oil, cookie mix and more! Mettrum Originals was actually a pioneer of hemp products in Canada, harvesting the first ever hemp crop in Canada in 1993!
Since then they have perfected the process of seed oil extraction and pride themselves on quality over quantity. You can see their full line of products on their website, MettrumOriginals.com.
Keeping your face moisturized is crutial, especially if you want your foundation to look smooth and skin-like. I like to use moisturizers on my face, but if I’m especially dry, I step it up a notch. To really get moisture into my skin, I like to use a serum.
I received a travel sized Modicum Essential Serum in a Vegan Cuts Beauty Box a few months back, and love the way it makes my skin feel. An oil will penetrate the skin much better than a lotion and this serum is packed full of powerful oils.
What I love about this serum is that it’s a true multitasker. Not only does it give my skin an instant glow and tons of moisture, but it also diminishes fine lines and wrinkles, and works on skin issues like acne, eczema and psoriasis.
Natural products can be pricey, so it always makes me happy to have multitaskers like this in my collection! I use only a few drops for each use (morning and night) so this tiny bottle is lasting a long time.
You’ll be pleased with the ingredients in this serum, almost every single ingredient is organic!
Ingredients: Argania Spinosa (Argan) Kernel Oil*, Rosa Canina (Rosehip) Fruit Oil*, Prunus Armeniaca (Apricot) Kernel Oil*, Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Oil*, Camellia Oleifera (Camellia) Seed Oil *, Cucurbita Pepo (Pumpkin) Seed Oil*, Squalane*, Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate, Nigella sativa (Black Cumin) Seed Oil*, Hippophae Rhamnoides (Sea Buckthorn) Fruit Oil*, Helichrysum Italicum Essential Oil*, Rose Damascena Absolute*, Ocimum Basillicum (Basil) Oil *, Tocopherol.(*Of Organic Origin)
Modicum Skin Care isn’t on the EWG database, but each of the ingredients score a 1, so it’s safe to say it’s a perfectly natural product. If you’re looking for a well-rounded face serum, this is your guy!
The Hands (legs, arms, and bod)
In the winter, my hands get so dry they usually end up cracked and that is the worst! So you can imagine that my main goal is to avoid this at all costs.
When I was on the hunt for a quality natural hand lotion, I really needed a quality body lotion too. Especially for my legs, you know how dry they can get with constant shaving! I needed a lotion that can multitask.
Enter Andalou Naturals.
I’m already obsessed with Andalou Naturals so you can imagine it didn’t take much for me to pick up their body lotion! And as expected, it did not disappoint.
It’s a toss-up on what I like best about this lotion, the way my skin feels when I use it or the amazing smell!! Mandarin vanilla basically smells like creamsicle, it’s heavenly!
And it’s from Andalou, so the ingredients are always top notch and scores a 2 on the EWG database.
Ingredients: Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice*, Purified Water (Aqua), Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil*, Vegetable Glycerin, Ethylhexyl Palmitate, Glyceryl Stearate, Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Seed Butter*, Cetyl Alcohol, Stearic Acid, Tocopherol, Fruit Stem Cells (Malus Domestica, Solar Vitis) and BioActive 8 Berry Complex*, Citrus Reticulate (Mandarin) Fruit Extract*, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter*†, Argania Spinsosa (Argan) Kernel Oil*, Allantoin, Ethylhexylglycerin, Panthenol, Xanthan Gum, Algin, Rosa Canina (Rosehip) Seed Oil*, Aspalathus Linearis (Rooibos) Extract*†, Phenethyl Alcohol, Vanilla Isolates, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Peel Oil* (*Certified Organic Ingredients †Fair Trade Ingredients)
I use their body lotion all over after a shower, and throughout the day on my hands and it leaves my skin so silky soft and full of moisture. I hate when my hands feel sticky or waxy after applying lotion and this stuff soaks right in with no residue.
Andalou products are also Non-GMO Verified, 99% Nature Derived, Verified Gluten Free, Vegan and Cruelty Free. Bonus!
I’m always excited to try new Andalou products after falling in love with their lid + lash makeup remover. Andalou makes quality products for very reasonable prices!
For anyone living in a dry climate, try these three moisture savers. Coming from a nearly chronic dry skin gal, you can trust me, they work!
Have you tried any of these favorites? What do you use to remedy dry skin? I’d love to add to my collection!
