Picture this: you’re in the beauty isle and want to pick up some goodies. Obviously you want to buy safe cosmetics without harmful chemicals but you don’t know what’s safe and what’s not.
You check the ingredient list but since you’re not a chemist these words mean nothing to you.
What do you do?
Here’s what you do: you reach in your pocket and pull out your phone. Head into your apps and pull up Think Dirty. Then you easily scan the barcode of the product you were interested in and the Think Dirty app will score the product on their system and tell you how clean or how dirty that product is.
Then you can make an informed decision on whether you want to be slathering it all over your face. Cool, right?
Well, even cooler news: Think Dirty has come out with a Think Dirty Beauty Box filled with super safe beauty products!
It’s a subscription box that you sign up for and every month you will get a beautifully packed box with about 9 different sample and full sized products that have squeaky clean ingredients.
Not only that, but you get insane value with their subscription box. For example, May’s box is valued at $250 but you only pay $95! And if this is something you think you’d like to try, you can get it for even less with my coupon code.
You can take another $5 off a Think Dirty Beauty Box with the code KATE5OFF.
When I was making the switch to green beauty, signing up for a subscription box was one of the first things I did. It helps introduce you to a ton of green and clean brands and it feels like Christmas every time that pretty little box shows up on your doorstep!
Thank you to Think Dirty for sending me one of their boxes this month!

Niu Body Make-up Remover Wipes
My first stop was the Niu Body Make-up Remover Wipes. These wipes have only three ingredients: fractionated coconut oil, and lavender and geranium essential oils. What a great concept!!
These wipes are actually quite large (a little smaller than the palm of my hand) and work really great for removing my face make-up. I only needed one pad to do my whole face which is great because they will actually go along ways –and a lot more ecofriendly if I only need one per day, right!?
The only downside was that they didn’t work great for removing my mascara. It took off my eyeliner and eyeshadow like a charm, but I really had to scrub my lashes, which is a bit uncomfortable.
But I really liked using them for the rest of my face, they left my skin feeling very hydrated and soft!
St. Tropica Coconut Hot Oil Hair Mask
I thought this was a pretty cool thing to use. It comes in a sealed plastic bag and you just pop it in the microwave for 20 seconds, then massage it into your hair and scalp. It says for best results leave it in overnight, so that’s what I did.
I didn’t have a hair cap (not that it would stay on all night anyway) so I just braided my hair and went to bed. I was a bit skeptical that I would get it all out in just one shower, but again, following the directions, I shampooed twice and what do you know, it all came out.
Once my hair dried and I styled it with my straightener it was so amazingly soft! I went to visit a friend and literally couldn’t stop touching my hair. I have enough to do it again too, it doesn’t take much product to cover your hair (and mine is quite long).
100% Pure Everywhere SPF 30
I’m already head over heals for 100% Pure, so my expectations were high for this sunscreen and I’m happy to report that it did not disappoint! It’s quickly climbed to the top of my natural sunscreen favorites list.
It goes on smooth, this compact container is so convenient for travel or to throw in your purse (which is exactly what I’ve done with mine!) and it’s 100% Pure, so you know it 100% pure.
I didn’t feel uncomfortably sticky or waxy like some sunscreens can make me feel. This formula is on point! If you’re looking for a sunscreen for this summer, this is your stuff!
Pogo Iced Berry Lip Balm
I have no words for this lip balm.
It just smells. SO. GOOD. I just can’t even handle it.
I literally just want to bite it off and eat it up. It smells so amazing and refreshing and delicious.
I’m putting it on right now, mhmm, it’s amazing.
You just need to have this lip balm. There’s just nothing else. Just get it.
Radha Organics Younger Face Cream
Multitasking products are the best, they save money and time. This Rudha cream is anti-aging and brightening, so a total time saver, PLUS it has SPF. Three in one, total score.
The Rudha cream has a subtle earthy smell and is a light brown color, so not your typical facial cream. It feels very hydrating on my skin, and it says it’s great for sensitive skin too.
Unstunk Natural Deodorant
I was a bit skeptical at first about applying my deodorant with my finger but I’ve got to say, it’s not so bad. I was pretty eager to try this deodorant because, like I’m sure you’re aware, finding a good natural deodorant is like finding a needle in a haystack.
Most natural deodorants are not antiperspirants, so you’re really just relying on the smell of the deodorant being stronger than the smell of your pits (ok, I may be over simplifying that but you get where I’m going).
So far this deodorant has done a pretty decent job. Unfortunately it doesn’t last all day, I would say it lasts a couple hours until I have to reapply.
It doesn’t compare to non-natural deodorants, but in the natural deodorant world I’d give it at least 3.5 stars.
Elixir Apothecary Himalayan Body Scrub
Body scrubs are awesome for removing dry skin and if you use a self-tanner, body scrubs are a must. I have both dry skin and use self-tanners so the Himalayan Body Scrub was perfect for me.
It feels like I’m really exfoliating well, yet it’s gentle enough that it doesn’t cause my skin to get irritated, and of course, it makes my skin feel so soft!
Davids Premium Natural Toothpaste
I’ve been wanting to try this toothpaste forever and now I finally have and it did not disappoint! Natural toothpastes in general get a lot less foamy (if at all) than regular toothpaste, so if you’ve never tired a one, this might throw you off.
I am no stranger to natural toothpaste, and I’ve tried almost as many natural toothpastes as I have natural deodorants and Davids is definitely my new favorite.
It’s minty (the only flavor toothpaste should ever be) and it actually doesn’t taste half bad. I think it’s super cool that it comes in a metal tube that is easily recyclable, and that it comes with the tube roller so you get every last bit.
It’s even picky husband approved!
Goddess Garden Organics Natural Sunscreen
There were two sample sized Goddess Garden facial sunscreens in the May box. My first impression is that I didn’t really love how the sunscreen applied. It is really sticky when it’s rubbed into my skin.
I applied the left overs to my arms and chest, and after about 10 minutes I had to wash it off my arms because I couldn’t stand that my hair kept on sticking to them. I realize it’s not for body, but the same thing happened on my face.
After applying my make-up over the sunscreen the sticky feeling was gone and it never bothered me again all day. After an hour or two my chest was a lot less sticky feeling and manageable, but getting through that first hour or so was not enjoyable.
I don’t mind this for under my make-up, but other than that, I’m not a fan.
Elate Loose Eyecolor
These were a bonus in my box, and I’m thoroughly enjoying them!
There are two shades, one dark and one light. I’ve been using the dark over my eyeshadow and it gives my eyes a really pretty shimmer and sparkle.
I’m most excited about the light shade, I’ve been using it as a highlighter and it’s the perfect color on my skin tone. I apply it with my finger on the tops of my cheek bones and on the tip of my nose and it gives my face a really pretty glow.
This is definitely going to be my go-to for a glowing face this summer!
Plaine Products Body Wash
I prefer body wash to bar soap any day. This body wash is no exception; it lathers great, smells amazing and comes in a super cute metal bottle.
The scent is Rosemary Mint Vanilla. Need I say more? It’s like heaven in a bottle!
I’m leaving on a trip in a few weeks and this travel size will be perfect for my suitcase.
Erin’s Faces Monoi Tiare Oil
I wasn’t sure at first what this oil was suppost to be used for so I ended up looking it up on erinsfaces.com and turns out there are a ton of uses. Some uses that were listed were a moisturizer, cuticle oil, as a perfume (smells very floral), use on dehydrated hair or as a heat protectant, or even as a baby oil.
I used it as a moisturizer just on my knuckles as they get quite dry (yes, even in the summer…) and it was quite convenient that it came in a roller bottle because I didn’t have to get the oil all over my hands.
I also rolled it on my wrists as a perfume and trust me when I say you don’t need much! A little goes a long way.
I’m interested to see what it would be like as a hair oil and heat protectant. It has a very pretty floral smell and I love that it’s good for so many different things.
NYL Organic Bath Soak Trio
I’m not much of a bath person myself, but after smelling these bath soaks, I just might become one. I got a set of three in the May box from NYL: a Himalayan, Dead Sea & Epsom Salt Bath Soak, a Shimmer Soak, and a Coconut Milk & Jasmine Bath Soak. They each smell so amazing, and are packaged in such cute little glass jars!
A huge thank you to Think Dirty for putting together a beauty box that is so jam packed full of goodies! And for sending one my way, I really enjoyed trying out all of these wonderful natural brands!
